I've recently finished with another painting project, and am that much closer to getting this family room done! This look will not be for everyone, but the lightened up/painted bookcases suit my room much better.
This is my casual family room, with quite a bit of beach decor, so it's colorful with aquas and whites.
I drug this set of old book shelves with me when I moved, and it wasn't until after I painted the room and some other furniture in whites and light colors that I couldn't stand to see the orangy colored wood any longer! You know how it goes, you start one project and it leads to another and another....and another!
The furniture itself is very well made and sturdy, and just the right size for the space. Plus, it offers lots of storage space!
I did lots of layers like I always do, in fact I changed my direction half way through. I started with a layer of basic white chalk paint, then did a couple layers of various shades of blues, blending with a rag and some dry brushing. I was going to stop there, but received my saltwash product in the mail, so thought why not try that too? I ultimately wanted the look to be like it was old and layered, with the underneath colors showing through.
Here's some "in process" pictures, starting with the before -
above is the first coat of white chalkpaint.
The 3 below is after a couple coats of blended aqua colors
This is where I was going to stop until I got the Saltwash. From the Saltwash website:
"Saltwash is an easy to use base coat formula to give a layered and textured effect when mixed with any brand or type of paint!
